Los Angeles World Airports has recognised Clay Lacy Aviation as part of its Fly Friendly Program at Van Nuys Airport for the eighth time since the programme began in 2012.

The award reflects the firm’s voluntary measures to reduce aircraft noise to surrounding communities, said Clay Lacy’s Dondi Pangalangan, Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives.

“Being a ‘Friendly Flyer’ aligns with our overall, thoughtfully better approach to private aviation services and our continued efforts to work with communities to reduce noise and our environmental footprint,” said Pangalangan. “We are committed to being a good neighbour to our communities and to intentionally consider and implement sustainability strategies into all aspects of operations and facilities.”

The Fly Friendly Program recognises jet operators that go beyond mandatory noise regulations to further reduce noise disruptions at Van Nuys. Some of the criteria considered include increasing southbound jet departures, avoiding overnight flights and achieving compliance at 99% or greater on No Early Turn and the Quiet Jet Departure programmes.

“Clay Lacy reaching these voluntary heights demonstrates the company’s continued efforts to be a great partner with the Van Nuys Airport community,” said David Reich, Los Angeles World Airports’s deputy executive director for Mobility Planning and Strategy. “These programmes help our city to appeal to residents and businesses alike, and help make us stronger economically.”

LA City Councilmember Imelda Padilla was on hand with Los Angeles World Airports CEO John Ackerman, and Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners President Karim Webb, and Van Nuys Airport Director Paul Herrera to present the Friendly Flyer Award to Clay Lacy Aviation.

Throughout Clay Lacy facilities, including Orange County, California, and Waterbury-Oxford, Connecticut, it has:

  • Sourced one-third of electricity from renewable sources.
  • Transitioned 100% of ground equipment to electric or renewable diesel.
  • Prevented 65,000lbs of carbon emissions through e-recycling program.
  • Avoided 6.7t of carbon emissions through EV charging network.
  • Sold more than 200,000 gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Jet Edge International is relocating its corporate headquarters to a new facility. It signed a long-term lease for a building at the north end of Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles.

The company has been prompted to make the move by exceptional growth in its business.

“Our new corporate headquarters is a reflection of where we, as a company, are headed. The Jet Edge brand operates at the very highest levels of our industry, and our new facility absolutely reflects that commitment.”

Bill Papariella, CEO of Jet Edge International, said: “Our new corporate headquarters is a reflection of where we, as a company, are headed. The Jet Edge brand operates at the very highest levels of our industry, and our new facility absolutely reflects that commitment.

“The new building is the premier facility at Van Nuys Airport, the epicentre of private aviation here in the United States. The move will allow our Jet Edge aircraft and clients to enjoy a pristine environment that delivers even better privacy, convenience and security.”

The new Jet Edge headquarters has a large hangar that can accommodate large private aircraft such as the Gulfstream G650 and Bombardier Global Express.

To complement it, the facility will have maintenance space, new offices and a hospitality area. Visiting clients will also be able to meet their parties in a lounge with a commercial kitchen for meal service.

The facility is also adjacent to the airport runway, minimising taxi time for clients flying in and out of Van Nuys.

Clay Lacy Aviation is investing $10 million in a new 6 acre site at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles, which is scheduled to open in 2016.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who said: “This major financial investment in our city will boost our local economy and create good, middle class jobs for Angelenos, including those young Angelenos who train at the LAUSD Van Nuys aviation mechanic school right next door.

“Clay Lacy Aviation is a homegrown, family-owned company that has been headquartered at Van Nuys Airport for nearly half a century, generating revenue to sustain Los Angeles. Clay Lacy’s growing operations demonstrate that our city is the place for businesses to start, grow and launch new ideas.”

Clay Lacy Aviation’s new and existing facilities will generate over $31 million in lease and $2.5 million in property tax revenues over a 30-year term. The development will also create approximately 25 new maintenance, line service and ground support jobs.

Clay Lacy, founder of the company, announced a new scholarship program that will cover the entire costs of tuition, tools, materials and required Federal Aviation Administration exams for two NVOC-Aviation students in financial need each year.

“When I started Clay Lacy Aviation in 1968 with a single Learjet, I could never have imagined operating a fleet of 75 business jets or having more than 300 employees as we do today,” Lacy said. “I’m proud to say that we employ more people at higher wage jobs and generate the highest tax revenue per acre than anyone on the airfield. Most importantly, the economic benefits and jobs we generate stay in the City of Los Angeles.”

The South Campus site will include hangar space to house long-range aircraft up to the size of the Global 7000 and 8000, Gulfstream G650 and Falcon 8X.

The facility will include new office, training and meeting spaces, along with an indoor event space featuring the display of Clay Lacy’s iconic Lear 24, the first business jet to land at Van Nuys Airport in 1964. There is also extra outside ramp space. The facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

The US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced an $18.4 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to reconstruct and repave the primary runway at Van Nuys Airport in California.

“This funding will help improve Van Nuys Airport’s infrastructure and will keep aircraft moving safely and efficiently through the airport,” LaHood said. “Investing in our nation’s airports promotes economic growth.”

The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will pay for resurfacing of the entire 8,000 ft primary runway. Construction is expected to begin in early 2013 and take nine months to complete.

“Van Nuys is one of the country’s busiest general aviation airports and is a powerful economic engine for the Los Angeles region,” said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. “This grant will ensure the airport will continue to operate safely and efficiently, providing quality service to its customers.”

Van Nuys had about 300,000 takeoffs and landings in 2011.

AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining all aspects of airports in the United States.

The US Transporatation Secretary announced a number of other grants to airports in the United States, totalling some $90 million.
