With this certification in hand, Comlux Malta is able to provide line maintenance services for EASA-registered Airbus A320 and A220 aircraft at its facilities in Malta and Dubai.

To further enhance the approval, the upcoming efforts will be directed to expand the certification by Bombardier and Boeing aircraft.

Ohio-headquartered operator Flexjet has registered its first Gulfstream G650 in Europe, with a second set to join the fleet within the next six months.

The new addition is registered in Malta, which Flexjet said reflects its “continuing operational growth in the region”.

It marks the first time the ultra-long-range aircraft has become available in Europe on a shared ownership programme, following its success in the US.

Offering a maximum range of nearly 11,500km (7,145m) and a top cruise speed of Mach 0.925, the Gulfstream G650 joins Flexjet’s existing super-midsize Embraer Praetor 600 fleet in being registered in Malta and operated by its Maltese operation.

“Our ultra-long-range programme is well-established in the US and we are delighted to welcome our first Gulfstream G650 into our European fleet, a significant investment that is a key milestone in our ambitious expansion plans,” Marine Eugène, MD Flexjet said.

She added that registering the jet in Malta demonstrates how “pivotal” the region is to the company’s future growth. “We have been impressed by its dynamic and professional aviation community and growing pool of industry talent,” added Eugène.

Back in May, Flexjet added three Praetor 600s to double its European fleet and moved its European operations to Farnborough. The company said that it will hire 350 pilots and add 50 aircraft to its fleet by the end of the year.

Air Charter Scotland has expanded its operations into Europe after being granted an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) by the Transport Malta Civil Aviation Directorate. The AOC issued to new sister company, Air Charter Scotland Europe Ltd (AOC number MT-63), is the culmination of several months of planning, and means the company can continue its expansion into EU territories.

Derek Thomson, Accountable Manager, Air Charter Scotland Europe Ltd, said: “The presentation of our Maltese AOC marks a significant step in our ability to grow our managed fleet of corporate private jets. It further enhances our ability to provide the highest level of responsiveness and customer service standards.

We appreciate it is an uncertain time in aviation but we see this new venture as a very positive step in our future and look forward to continuing to exceed our customers’ expectations and to contribute toward the development of business aviation.”

Air Charter Scotland Europe Ltd has already sourced its first aircraft, a Challenger CL-350, with more to be added before the end of this year.

Meanwhile, the Air Charter Scotland team have reported an increased surge of enquiries during the Covid-19 outbreak compared with the same period last year, it says, due to the lack of available airline flights and clients seeking safer ways to travel.

TAG Aviation Europe was delighted to mark the first anniversary of its Maltese AOC this month with an official celebration alongside the inauguration of a brand new office space.

Securing the Maltese AOC last year was a terrific complement to TAG’s other European operations and its on-going expansion into new EU territories in order to provide aircraft owners and customers with an attractive choice of aircraft commercial registration.

TAG Malta has enjoyed a flourishing twelve months of operations, with its fleet growing at a very healthy rate and now comprises 8 aircraft available for worldwide charters, with more corporate jets expected to be added to the fleet later this year.

“It is with great pleasure that we celebrate our first very successful year of flight operations in such a commercially abundant commonwealth state”, said Francois Stock, TAG Aviation’s Accountable Manager of the Maltese AOC. “The incredible success and impressive growth of our young Maltese company is, first of all, the result of a passionate team, all of whom continue to provide a fantastic service through their enthusiasm and dedication. We thank our clients for their confidence in us and look forward to a continuing to surpass their expectations and remain committed to providing a very attractive solution of jurisdiction for new clients coming onboard.”

“It was evident from day one that TAG Malta would be a prized addition to the list of operators who decided to make Malta their jurisdiction of choice”, said Captain Charles Pace, Director General, Civil Aviation Directorate Transport Malta (TM-CAD).

“The professionalism, dedication and determination of the management and staff have made it a near seamless process and we are happy to see their growth over the months with 8 aircraft. We look forward to working with TAG Malta in the coming months not only to consolidate but to steadily grow stronger and bigger in the years to come.”

Strong winds on the Mediterranean island of Malta caused a Dassault Falcon 7X to jump its chocks on 27 December 2017 and roll from its parking position into a nearby building.

Images from social media show the nose of the 2008-build Falcon 7X, MSN 14/VP-BZE, stuck inside a small building.

According to local reports, both the aircraft and the building were empty at the time of the incident.

A video posted on the Malta Today website shows that the aircraft rolled through a fence and across a small road, before becoming embedded in a small building.

In a statement, the Malta International Airport said it had immediately attended the scene to ensure the safety of the airport, confirming later that the incident appeared to have been caused by strong winds.

Falcon 7X VP-BZE is owned by Michael Ashcroft, a Belize-born British former politician and businessman. The “BZE” in the aircraft registration is short for Belize.

In 2005, Albinati Aeronautics obtained a Swiss AOC and made its first steps as a commercial operator. The same year it established its CAMO department (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization).

Jersey is the latest island that wants to register your aircraft.

ZJ. Zulu Juliet. The Channel Island of Jersey this week announced that that will be its prefix for aircraft on the Jersey Aircraft Register and that it hopes to open for business in September.

The proliferation of aircraft registries is amazing. Seven years ago, off-shore aircraft registration was pretty much limited to the ABCs of Aruba (P4), Bermuda (VPB/VQP) and Cayman (VPC).

MUST-READ: Jersey Aircraft Registry to battle with Guernsey Aircraft Registry

Since then we have had the launch of the Isle of Man (M- ), San Marino (T7), the Guernsey/Channel Island Registry (better known as 2-Reg) and now, Jersey. We have also see Malta (9H) targeting business jets – particularly operators.

There has never been so much choice for aircraft owners. And the competition, particularly the focus on customer service, has been extremely positive for everyone. So far, at least, there does seem to be room for them all.

The Isle of Man, which has just celebrated its seventh birthday, has 481 aircraft on its registry. San Marino, which launched in December 2012, already has 76 aircraft. Guernsey, which launched in December, has a decent number of off-lease commercial aircraft and is taking its first large business jet in the next few days. Five years ago five companies on Malta held Aircraft Operator Certificates (AOCs). There are now 21 AOCs on the Mediterranean island.

ALSO READ: 10 private jets on the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry

This success is encouraging other countries. At least four other jurisdictions are talking about following Jersey and launching new business jet registries. One of these is Ireland. Ireland leads the world in commercial aircraft leasing and is keen to attract business jets. The country is considering launching a dedicated business jet registry (even though it already has a well-developed aircraft registry).

It is fair to question how many more business jet registries the world needs. Especially when you consider that 66 per cent of the global business jet fleet – some 13,277 aircraft – are registered in just one building in Oklahoma City. But as the business jet market becomes more global, the demand may be there.
