The FBO operator signed an agreement with Titan Fuel Services which will provide the SAF at its Palm Springs, California base.

Offering SAF to our clients is a significant milestone as we continue to lead the way in sustainable aviation practices,” said Jared Fox, CEO, Desert Jet.

Titan Aviation will supply SAF produced by World Energy – a low-carbon and eco-friendly alternative to traditional Jet-A fuel.

The SAF is agricultural waste and residues converted into a renewable fuel source that can reduce carbon emissions significantly compared to fossil-based jet fuel.

The G600 aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines, departed from Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah and landed at Farnborough Airport, UK.

The SAF was made of 100% Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) by World Energy at their Paramount Facility, California and was delivered by World Fuel Services.

The data gathered from the flight will help gauge aircraft compatibility with low-aromatic renewable fuels, especially under cold temperatures for extended flights.

Anthony Rossi, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Pratt & Whitney said this was a major step as they continue to validate the compatibility of their engines with unblended SAF.

“We’d like to thank all our partners for their help in making this milestone flight happen, and for their ongoing partnership in collaborating with the extended SAF community to champion the aviation industry’s path to 100% SAF usage,” said Burns.

Gulfstream are also the first business jet Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to fly on 100% SAF.

This announcement comes just a week before Virgin and Rolls Royce plan to fly the first commercial aircraft trans-Atlantic flight using 100% SAF on November 28^th, taking off from Heathrow and landing at New York JFK.

“Providing SAF for aircraft departing from this year’s convention not only makes the event more sustainable, but allows NBAA members to take an active role in helping the industry to achieve our net-zero target,” said Ed Bolen, president and CEO, NBAA.

NBAA-BACE is the world’s largest business aviation event bringing together thousands of industry pioneers. The convention showcases technologies that are driving efficiency, safety and sustainability of aviation.

Moreover, the 2023 convention will highlight industry’s focus on sustainability with an emphasis on the notable innovations and advancements being made to shape the future.

Geere said the service would play an integral part in delivering the UK government’s targets for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

In 2018, Farnborough Airport was the first business aviation airport to be awarded carbon neutral status by Airports Council International (ACI) Europe. It has reduced controllable emissions by 70% in the past 10 years.

The Neste MY SAF available at Farnborough Airport is produced 100% from renewable and sustainable waste and residual raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste.

Neste is also providing SAF for group charter, and air ambulance company, Jetflite and Million Air Burbank FBO.

Since the original agreement, Gulfstream has used of some of the fuel to fly over 650 flights with an SAF and Jet-A fuel blend. Gulfstream reported that this reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,700 tonnes on these flights. The remainder of the fuel was delivered to the company’s California facilities.

Meanwhile, NetJets recently announced it is to take up to 3m gallons of SAF from Signature Flight Support. The FBO has partnered with fuel refiner, Neste, to deliver 5m gallons to two of Signature’s airport bases – San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and London-Luton Airport (LTN). NetJets is the launch customer and will take up to 60% of this initial SAF supply. The deal agreed between Signature and Neste for the biofuel is the largest ever by an FBO.

The new 12,500 square feet building will more than double PAZOS’ existing operation, including an extension of hangar facilities and aircraft parking ramp to give way for projected traffic increase.

The PAZOS expansion includes the opening of a full service US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) terminal within the new FBO building.
